Why make your own shampoo? Three words: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Goggle those three words and you'll find out that commercially sodium lauryl sulfate is used as an engine degreaser. Some of the known effects may include skin irritation, endocrine disruption, hair loss, head aches, nausea, and congestion. These are just a few of the common side affects of using products with sodium lauryl sulfate. Finding a commercial brand of shampoo and/or conditioner that does not have this ingredient is a challenge. This is why I decided to just make my own. I think you'll agree that my recipe is quite simple and very easy to make.

Here is what you'll need:
- A BPA approved plastic bottle with either a pump or squirt top lid. You could use a glass bottle, however to avoid the danger of breaking glass in the bath/shower, I recommend a high quality BPA approved plastic bottle. I buy mine from Abundant Health
- A funnel and measuring cup
- Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile soap
- Coconut milk (I prefer the culinary coconut milk but you could use canned coconut milk or even the coconut milk that is sold in the dairy case of your grocery store)
- Rosemary and Peppermint essential oils
- Measure 1/2 cup of liquid castile soap and add to your plastic bottle.
- Next measure 1/2 cup of coconut milk and add to your plastic bottle.
- Add 15-20 drops of Rosemary essential oil.
- Add 10-15 drops of Peppermint essential oil.
- Give it a good shake before each use and avoid getting the shampoo in your eyes.
