Living In Abundance

A Day I'll Never Forget

You know how there are just some days in your life that you never forget. The memories are so clear, it could have happened yesterday. Today I am reminded of how good God is and how He has always loved me and taken care of me and the family that I love so dearly.

Today marks the 11th anniversary of when my husband Mark fell at work and broke his back in six places and a couple of ribs. October 18, 2004 was a Monday. The day that Mark fell 16 feet onto concrete and construction rubble. I clearly remember getting the call from his co-worker on my Nextel phone. Walkie talkie style. He let me know that Mark fell and was being taken to the hospital. A sense of peace and calm flooded me. Sure, I was scared, yet I had a calmness that can only be explained by the presence of the Holy Spirit. Phone calls were made as I cleared my day’s schedule and made arrangements for someone to pick up our infant daughter from daycare. I was blessed to have my friend Sherry be able to travel with me and we both prayed the whole way down the road. We were not alone. During this time there was a multitude of people praying for my husband, and for me.

Many many prayers were answered that day, that week and over the weeks and months to follow. The outpouring of God’s love on my family still is overwhelming to me even today, 11 years down the road. Mark healed and learned to walk again, right along with our infant daughter. He was able to return to work only a few months after the accident which is nothing less than a miracle.

Mark is a recovering addict. I asked others to pray for him that he would not have problems with the pain meds. My prayers were answered and he asked the nurses to remove the morphine drip. When he got home, he filled one prescription, took one pill and disposed of the rest. I believe that NOT taking the pain meds is one of the biggest reasons he was able to recover and return to work as quickly as he did. Praise God!

God has a plan for Mark’s life and He saved him (again) on that day. I know He has a plan for my life and I am following the path He has laid out for me. God has a plan for your life too. Do you know what it is?
